태극당

Seoul's oldest bakery, opened the year after liberation and named for the national taegeuk.

Founded in 1946 in Myeongdong and later moved to its current spot, its founder chose the taegeuk — Korea's national symbol — for the name and logo to mark the joy of liberation. Its monaka ice-cream sandwich and castella are still the signatures.
